Siesta

Happy Ffffriday! Some weeks that glorious day can’t come soon enough. The Siesta was much needed in more ways than one – as in the cocktail to celebrate the end of the week and time with family and friends. And two, recovering from the Commando Series challenge I did with two amazing friends and a junior, last Saturday at Hever Castle, Kent. However, this Siesta is far from a nap of any sort.

This cocktail was a case of… what have we got that’s got some oomph to kick start the weekend but not too icy to freeze our buns off. I feel winter has decided to arrive with force!

The Siesta cocktail features in Jim Meehan’s PDT Cocktail Book and was created by Katie Stripe.

Essentially it’s Tequila, Campari, Sugar, Lime and Grapefruit. It’s a well-rounded drink that is smokey, tart, bitter, sweet and sour and a hint of spice. I had grapefruits that needed using up which was the motivation I needed to give this a try. I tweaked a few of the measurements to suit my taste.

Let’s shake it up…

Ingredients

50ml Tequila Blanco

20ml Campari

20ml Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice

20ml Simple Syrup

50ml freshly squeezed Grapefruit Juice

A slice of either grapefruit or lime

for garnish

ice

How to

Add ice and shake shake shake until it’s ice cold.

Strain into a coupe glass or something fun – it’s Friday after all.

Garnish with a slice of grapefruit or lime wheel. Rim the glass with grapefruit juice and dip into rock salt and pink pepper.

This is refreshing with a kick. I added extra grapefruit juice but imagine some soda would be great too.

For party season, this could definitely be made in a batch and served either in a punch bowl or pitcher. Leaving you to join the party and leaving the guests to help themselves ?

xoxo
